Laravel Rescue

Laravel rescue: when your project has gone wrong

The developer has gone quiet, the budget has gone, or production keeps falling over. It happens to good businesses more often than anyone admits — and it is fixable. We take over stalled Laravel projects with a confidential audit and a fixed-price plan to get you back on track.

Laravel rescue and recovery — taking over a stalled web application

Signs you need a rescue

None of these mean you did anything wrong. They are common failure patterns on software projects — and every one of them can be recovered from.

Your developer has gone silent

Replies have dried up, invoices keep arriving, or the freelancer or firm that built the app has simply disappeared with the only working knowledge of it.

Every change breaks something

Small tweaks cause regressions somewhere unrelated. Deploys have become feared events, so improvements quietly stop happening.

Stuck on Laravel 8 or 9

Your app runs on a Laravel release — and a PHP version — that no longer receives security patches. Every month on it increases the risk.

No tests, no documentation

Nothing is written down and there is no test suite. Only one person ever understood how it works, and they are no longer around.

Security worries

You suspect outdated dependencies, weak authentication or exposed credentials — but nobody can tell you for certain, and that uncertainty keeps you up at night.

Costs keep ballooning

Every estimate doubles. The project has been “nearly done” for months. You are paying more and more for less and less visible progress.

How a rescue works

A calm, structured process designed to remove risk quickly — and to put you back in control of scope and cost.

Emergency triage

A free, confidential call to establish what is live, what is broken and what is at immediate risk. If production is down or data is exposed, we deal with that first — before any paperwork.

Code & infrastructure audit

A fixed-fee audit (£2,500–£5,000, credited in full against remedial work) covering the codebase, servers, dependencies, security and deployment pipeline. You get a written report you own.

Stabilise production

Stop the bleeding: error tracking, monitoring, verified backups, critical security patches and a deploy process that no longer relies on luck. The goal is simple — no more 2am surprises while the deeper work happens.

Remediation plan with fixed prices

A prioritised roadmap where every item carries a fixed price. You approve work piece by piece — no open-ended day rates, no runaway budgets.

Ongoing ownership or handover

Stay with us on a monthly retainer, or take a fully documented, tested codebase to your own team or a new hire. It is your application — the exit is always yours.

What you get from the audit

Every rescue starts with the audit: a written, plain-English report — not a wall of jargon — that tells you exactly where your application stands and what it will take to put right. It is confidential, it is yours to keep, and you are free to act on it with us or take it to any team you choose. If you do proceed with remediation, the audit fee is credited in full. See our pricing page for how rescue engagements compare with our other services.

You are trusting a stranger with a project that has already been let down once, so credentials matter. Zorinto is a UK software development company that has been delivering since 2019 (first as Criztec), with 75+ projects shipped, 98% client satisfaction and a 5.0 Google rating. Zorinto Ltd is registered at Companies House (15494238) and headquartered in Slough — a real company you can verify, not a marketplace profile.

Security posture

Vulnerable dependencies, authentication weaknesses, data-exposure risks and server hygiene — ranked by severity, with the critical items flagged for immediate action.

Upgrade path

The exact route from your current Laravel and PHP versions to supported releases, with the effort and risk of each step estimated honestly.

Code-quality assessment

An evidence-based read of what is sound, what is fragile and what genuinely needs to change — as opposed to what is merely unfashionable.

Cost forecast

What remediation will cost, prioritised so you can fund the critical work first and schedule the rest around your budget.

Upgrades without downtime

Many rescues are, at heart, overdue upgrades. An application stuck on Laravel 8 or 9 is running on PHP releases that no longer receive security fixes — but that does not mean it needs a rewrite. We move legacy Laravel apps to supported versions incrementally, keeping the application live for your customers throughout.

The pay-off goes beyond security. A supported Laravel version means modern packages install cleanly, new developers can work productively from day one, and hosting bills often fall because current PHP releases are simply faster. Most upgrade projects complete within a handful of weeks, and because each step ships independently, you see progress — and can pause — at every stage rather than waiting on one all-or-nothing migration.

Test harness first

Before touching a line, we wrap the critical paths — checkout, login, reporting — in characterisation tests so we know immediately if behaviour changes.

Version by version

Laravel 8 → 9 → 10 and onwards, one release at a time, following the official upgrade guides with automated tooling to catch breaking changes.

Rehearsed on staging

Each upgrade step is performed and verified on a staging environment that mirrors production, so surprises happen where they cost nothing.

Zero-downtime cutover

The production switch uses zero-downtime deployment with a tested rollback plan. Your customers never see a maintenance page.

Laravel rescue FAQs

Straight answers to the questions people ask when a project has gone wrong.

Can you take over any Laravel codebase?

Almost any, with honest caveats. We have taken over apps with no tests, no documentation and no handover from the previous team — and apps where the previous team is still nominally involved but progress has stalled. Occasionally an audit shows that one module is cheaper to rebuild than to repair; if that is the case, we will say so plainly and put numbers against both options rather than quietly billing for the harder path. All we need to start is access to the code and the hosting.

Will you rubbish the previous developer?

No. We assess code, not people. Most troubled projects are the product of shifting requirements, squeezed budgets and time pressure — not incompetence. Our audit reports are factual and blame-free, so you can share them with your board, your investors, or even the original developer without awkwardness.

How much does a Laravel rescue cost?

The code and infrastructure audit is £2,500–£5,000 depending on the size of the application, and the fee is credited in full against any remedial work you commission. After the audit, every remediation item is fixed-price — you approve each piece of work knowing exactly what it costs before it starts. That structure exists for a reason: most rescue clients have already been burned by open-ended billing, and we would rather carry the estimating risk ourselves than ask you to trust another blank cheque.

How fast can you stabilise production?

Triage starts within days, not weeks. If your application is down, leaking data or blocking customers, we deal with the immediate risk first — error tracking, backups and critical patches — and run the full audit in parallel. Most production incidents are contained in the first week.

Do we have to rewrite the whole thing?

Usually no. A working Laravel app — even a messy one — encodes years of business decisions that a rewrite throws away. In most rescues we stabilise, upgrade and refactor incrementally, keeping the app live throughout. Where you genuinely need new features on a sound footing afterwards, our Laravel development team carries on from the rescue.
