About This Role

We are looking for a Laravel developer to join our India-based remote team on an independent contractor engagement. You will build and maintain PHP/Laravel applications, APIs and Livewire or HTMX-driven interfaces for international clients, working directly with our technical lead rather than through layers of management.

Role overview

You’ll own Laravel applications end to end for client projects: clean Eloquent models, well-designed APIs, reliable queued work, and server-rendered interfaces that stay fast without a heavy frontend build. We’re a remote-first team, so clear communication and solid engineering habits matter as much as raw output.

What you’ll work on

  • Building and evolving Laravel applications and REST APIs
  • Interactive server-rendered UI with Blade and Livewire, or HTMX where it fits better
  • Eloquent models, migrations and query patterns designed for performance
  • Queued jobs, scheduled tasks and event-driven workflows
  • Test coverage with Pest or PHPUnit, and CI-friendly development

  • PR-based workflow with code review
  • AI tooling in the loop by default — we expect you to use it, and to catch what it gets wrong
  • Pragmatic documentation: decisions, APIs and handover notes

How we engage you

Be clear on this before you apply. This is an independent contractor engagement, not employment:

  • Initial six-month term, renewable after review
  • You invoice us monthly and are paid by bank transfer in INR
  • You are responsible for your own income tax, professional tax and GST where applicable
  • You provide your own laptop, internet and development tooling
  • No PF, gratuity, paid leave or medical insurance — the rate reflects that

If that structure doesn’t suit you, we’d rather you knew now than after an interview.

Interview process

  1. Short intro call (experience + role fit)
  2. Technical discussion (Laravel, Eloquent, queues, architecture, debugging)
  3. Small take-home or live exercise (scoped and time-boxed)
  4. Final conversation (ways of working + offer)

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of professional experience building and shipping web applications
  • Strong PHP (8.4 or 8.5) and Laravel 13 — we build on current versions, not legacy ones
  • Solid Eloquent skills: relationships, eager loading, migrations, and avoiding N+1 queries
  • Experience designing REST APIs, with Sanctum or Passport for authentication
  • Queues, jobs and scheduled tasks (Horizon, Redis) in production
  • Blade with Livewire, or HTMX (2.x) — interactive server-rendered UI without a heavy SPA
  • MySQL or PostgreSQL and practical database design: schema modelling, indexing, query tuning
  • Writing tests (Pest or PHPUnit) and working comfortably in CI pipelines
  • Security fundamentals: authentication, authorization, OWASP Top 10
  • Git and PR-based collaboration, including reviewing other people’s code
  • Confident daily use of AI coding tools — Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT — and the judgement to review, test and correct what they produce
  • Clear written English; most of our collaboration is async and in writing
  • Your own laptop, reliable high-speed internet and a workable home setup — we do not ship hardware
  • Experience with Filament, Inertia, or third-party and payment integrations is a plus

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Laravel applications, REST APIs and admin panels
  • Build interactive server-rendered interfaces with Blade and Livewire or HTMX
  • Design and optimise Eloquent models, migrations and query patterns
  • Implement queued jobs, scheduled tasks and event-driven workflows
  • Write feature and unit tests, and take part in code reviews
  • Improve performance, observability and reliability of what you ship
  • Use AI tooling to move faster, while staying accountable for correctness and quality
  • Integrate third-party services, payment providers and client systems
  • Work with UK-based clients and teams across time zones
  • Keep implementation notes and API documentation current
